General Information



The Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics is offering 5 Honours Scholarships for 2009.

Projects are available in the fields of plant biotechnology, Genomics, Proteomics, Transcriptomics, Metabolomics, Bioinformatics and Genetics.

Scholars Receive:

  • A tax free stipend of $3,000
  • Excellent support from both supervisors and peers
  • Access to state of the art equipment and resources
  • Opportunities to attend quarterly meetings at ACPFG’s Adelaide and interstate nodes
  • Opportunities to attend national conferences (subject to CEO approval)
  • Professional development workshops and training in:

    • Scientific method and research techniques
    • Communication and poster making
    • IP management and commercialization
    • Regulatory, ethical and social issues related to gene technology
    • Scientific writing / grant writing
    • Grant and scientific writing
    • Science communication.

  • Fully paid registration for the ACPFG annual symposium ‘Genomics in the Barossa’.

ACPFG Honours programs are run in conjunction with the University of Adelaide's Science Faculty, School of Agriculture and Wine, located at the Waite Campus.

Note: ACPFG scholarship opportunities are available at our four research nodes: The University of Adelaide, the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland and DPI at La Trobe University. Prerequisites



Students applying for Honours with the ACPFG are required to have successfully completed a Science, Biotechnology or Agricultural Science degree. Majors or degree's in the following fields are also acceptable:

  • Bioinformatics
  • Computer Science
  • Molecular Biology
  • Genetics
  • Biochemistry
  • Plant Physiology
  • Mathematical Science

Eligibility for Award



Evidence of strong academic performance (usually a credit average) is required.

Please note, international students are able to apply for ACPFG Honours scholarships. However, they are required to pay the specified tuition fees as outlined by the University course.

Application Closure



Applications to do honours in 2009 close on the 21st November 2008.

How to Apply



Look at the range of projects provided in the Honours booklet

Send a letter of interest (indicting your project of choice), an up to date copy of your academic transcript and personal resume (including the names and details of at least two professional referees) to Monica Ogierman.

A meeting will then be arranged to discuss projects and application procedures.

Note: Successful applicants will be required to fill out tax forms, pay roll forms and an ACPFG confidentiality agreement.
