Background Information



The Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics offers a number of PhD. scholarships each year. Projects are available in the fields of plant biotechnology, genomics, proteomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics and genetics.

You can look at suggested projects here. These are suggestions only and open to change. Alternatively, you can design your own project.

Scholars Receive:

  • A tax free stipend of $25,000 per year

Scholarship opportunities are available at our four research nodes: the University of Adelaide, the University of Melbourne, the University of Queensland and the Department of Primary Industries at La Trobe University. Prerequisites



Prerequisites include either First Class or 2A Honours in a science, agriculture or biotechnology degree.

The following fields may also be acceptable:
 •  Bioinformatics
 •  Computer Science
 •  Molecular Biology
 •  Genetics
 •  Biochemistry
 •  Plant Physiology
 •  Mathematical Science

   
 

Eligibility



Students applying for Ph.D. scholarships with the ACPFG must be Australian Citizens or permanent residents. International students should see the Frequently Asked Questions page.

Evidence of strong academic performance (at least a credit average) is required.

   
 

How to apply



Applications for ACPFG scholarships are accepted throughout the year.

Send a letter of interest including project preferences, an up to date copy of your academic transcript and curriculum vitae (including the names and details of at least two professional referees) to Monica Ogierman.

Applications must be lodged electronically

A meeting will then be arranged to discuss projects and application procedures.
