If you are interested in the application of plant biotechnology to Australian agriculture, molecular genetics, protein structural analysis, genomics, proteomics, metabolomics or bioinformatics...And you would like to gain some industry relevant experience, then contact the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics and we can organise a professional work placement or a period of work experience.

The time you spend at the Centre will provide you with:

 •  Industry relevant experience
 •  Experience with the latest plant biotechnology equipment and research techniques
 
 

Centre Location



This Centre is located at the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide. This is one of the most prestigious research facilities in the South Hemisphere. With the facilities already available at the Waite and the facilities provided by the new Plant Genomics Centre, you will have access to the best resources available in the Plant Biotechnology area.

   
 

What Students Receive



While working with the Centre, we will ensure you have excellent support from both your supervisor and your peers. You will have access to state of the art equipment and technologies and will be able to network with world renounced scientists.

After the week-long work placement, students will receive a Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics certificate that will be a valuable asset to your personal portfolio.

   
 


Prerequisites



To do work experience with the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics you must have:
 
 •  A strong interest in plant biotechnology
 •  Permission from you school
 •  Appropriate insurance

   
 

Duration



Work experience usually will last for a week long period. This time and the hours you attend may be negotiated with your placement supervisor.
 
Work experience is available throughout the year.

   
 

How to apply



Step 1
To apply for work experience with the Australian Centre for Plant Functional Genomics it is important that you firstly contact us and let us know your interested. Please outline your background and research interests.

We will then arrange for you to meet potential supervisors, get a feel for the type of research conducted and make yourself known to the Centre.

Step 2
You will then be required to send through:

 •  An application letter stating why you would like to do work experience within the Centre and outline your background.
 •  An up to date copy of your CV
 •  A copy of your academic transcript or a summary of the subjects you are currently studying
 •  The names and contact details of three academic referees (two academic and one personal)

Please note:

 •  Work placement projects will vary depending on the time of year you apply. Projects can be negotiated with supervisor.
 •  You will be required to fill out appropriate payroll details, tax forms and other administration documents in their beginning week. Students will also be required to sign an ACPFG confidentiality agreement.
