Expertise and Research Interests
|
|
Expertise
in molecular biology.
Current
research is focused on plant cell walls, with a particular interest in
improving stem strength. Weak
stems are more prone to lodging, which can result in major crop
losses. Stem strength has been
correlated with the cellulose content of secondary cell walls. Using maize and barley cell wall
mutants, we are investigating the contributions of cellulose and other
secondary wall components in conferring stem strength.
