There are two Masters Programs offered by the University of Adelaide:

    bullet Masters by Research
    bullet Masters by course work in Plant Biotechnology
All international students wanting to do either Masters of Biotechnology or Masters by Research must first apply to The University of Adelaide

Masters by Research at ACPFG

We are looking for motivated, enthusiastic students with a degree in one of the following fields:

bullet Agriculture bullet Biology bullet Bioinformatics
bullet Biotechnology bullet  Computer Science bullet Genetics
bullet Mathematics bullet Molecular Biology bullet Physics
bullet Plant Physiology bullet Science bullet Statistics
bullet Software Engineering  

Masters by Research students must have a source of funding that includes their stipend (living allowance) and international students must also have funding that covers university tuition fees.



Masters by Research involves a 2 year research project with an approved supervisor. For more information on how to apply for Postgraduate reserach study please click here

Finding a research area and supervisor

Once you have applied to the University of Adelaide for admission into the Masters Degree by Research program, you will need to be assessed by ACPFG for suitability. We will then help you to find an appropriate supervisor.

ACPFG is divided into focus research groups. Each group investigates how we can improve wheat and barley's tolerance to environmental stresses.

Please note that all successful applicants will be required to sign an ACPFG confidentiality agreement.

How to apply for a Masters by Research position at ACPFG

Choose an ACPFG node where you would like to do your Masters by Research. Send the following information to the appropriate person for the node:
  1. Letter of interest outlining why you would like to pursue a Masters by Research at ACPFG, and your research area of interest

  2. Current curriculum vitae (or resume) that includes the names and contact details of three professional references

  3. Scanned copy of your academic transcript, including the grading system (with an English translation)
All masters candidates must undergo an ACPFG selection process and must also apply for admission into the university associated with an ACPFG node.

Both ACPFG and the university will assess your application to ensure that your background can lead to complete a Masters by Research.

Masters by Coursework: Masters of Biotechnology (Plant Biotechnology)

Masters of Biotechnology (Plant Biotechnology) is a coursework masters with a research component. In the first year, full time students undertake courses in Molecular Plant Breeding, Plant Genomics, Techniques in Biotechnology, Applications of Plant Biotechnology to Plant Production, Human Health and Nutrition as well as the management, Commercialisation and Regulation of Plant biotechnology. Many of the staff at ACPFG teach into these courses.

In the second year, students undertake a a research project over 10 months (equivalent to 24 units). The research project must be chosen / developed by the student with the potential supervisor (with guidance from the program co-ordinator) at the end of the preceding year.

To be eligible to enter the Masters of Biotechnology (Plant Biotechnology) students must have completed a Bachelor degree at credit level or equivalent.

Students may also apply to enter the Graduate Certificate (6 months full time) or Graduate Diploma (1 year full time) in Biotechnology (Plant Biotechnology).

Students are eligible to apply for a PhD at the completion, however are not eligible for an ACPFG research scholarship.
